2024 Toyota Tacoma vs 2024 Toyota Tundra

Toyota has been a leading automobile manufacturer that has produced some of the most durable, reliable, and capable trucks on the market for years. These trucks are the Toyota Tacoma and the Toyota Tundra. These two trucks are built to last and provide users with an unbeatable experience in their respective classes. However, with all the similarities these two trucks offer, it can be challenging to choose between them. In this article, we will compare the 2024 Toyota Tacoma and the 2024 Toyota Tundra to help you make an informed purchasing decision.

Engine and Capability Comparison

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma comes with a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers a power output of 278 horsepower with 180 pound-feet of torque, along with an optional 3.5-liter V6 engine that gives you 278 horsepower with 317 pound-feet of torque. The Tacoma is also available with a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged hybrid engine. The hybrid offers more power including up to 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. In contrast, the Toyota Tundra comes with a standard 3.4-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that delivers 358 horsepower with 406 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, there is an optional 3.4-liter V6 twin-turbocharged hybrid engine that gives you 437 horsepower with 583 pound-feet of torque. The Tundra is ideal for those who need a high-power truck that can tow heavy loads, and the Tacoma is perfect for everyday drivers who need a reliable work truck that can do light hauling.

Towing capabilities of the Toyota Tundra range from 8,300 pounds to an impressive 12,000 pounds depending on the engine configuration and drivetrain. In contrast, the Toyota Tacoma’s towing capacity ranges from 3,500 pounds to 6,500 pounds depending on configuration. The Tundra has a higher towing capacity and payload capacity than the Tacoma, making it better for towing heavy goods and carrying a significant weight.

The Toyota Tacoma has a better fuel economy than the Toyota Tundra. The 2024 Tacoma can get up to 21/26 mpg city/highway. In contrast, the Toyota Tundra gets 18/24 mpg city/highway. Thus, if you are looking for a more fuel-efficient truck, the Toyota Tacoma is an ideal choice.

The Toyota Tacoma comes with an Off-Road Package that is equipped with a locking rear differential, off-road tires, and Bilstein monotube shocks. Furthermore, it features active traction control, crawl control, and a multi-terrain select system. The 2024 Toyota Tundra also comes with an Off-Road Package, which includes Bilstein shock absorbers, skid plates, and off-road tires. Additionally, it comes with a 4WDemand part-time four-wheel drive system with an electronically controlled transfer case. In terms of off-road capabilities, both trucks can handle the toughest terrains.

Interior and Technology Comparison

For interior space, both the 2024 Toyota Tacoma and 2024 Toyota Tundra have ample space in the front row. However, the Tundra is a full-size truck and offers more space in the rear seats and overall cabin area. The Tacoma, on the other hand, is a midsize truck and has limited rear seat space. Both trucks come with comfortable cloth or leather seats depending on the trim. The 2024 Tacoma has been upgraded to feature a new infotainment system with an 14-inch touchscreen display that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Tundra is also equipped with a 14-inch touchscreen display, providing more screen real estate.

In terms of technology features, Toyota has made sure that both trucks are up to date with the latest tech advancements. Both the 2024 Toyota Tacoma and 2024 Toyota Tundra have a suite of driver-assistance features, including forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. For added convenience, both trucks have wireless charging, multiple USB ports, and Bluetooth connectivity.

Exterior and Design Comparison

The first thing that many drivers will notice about the 2024 Toyota Tacoma is its sporty and aggressive exterior styling. Its sleek, chiseled lines and muscular wheel arches give it a stylish, urban look. The TRD models especially, have an off-road appearance that’s fit for any adventure. On the other hand, the 2024 Toyota Tundra is slightly larger with a more boxy exterior design. It gives off a more dominant look, which is perfect for drivers looking for a tougher truck for work or recreation purposes.

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma comes with a 131.9-inch wheelbase, whereas the 2024 Toyota Tundra comes with a longer wheelbase of 145.7 inches. Both trucks will come in many different trim levels and styles. The Tacoma is lighter, smaller and more agile than the Tundra, making it the better choice for drivers who need a truck that is easy to maneuver in tight spaces. For those who do not worry so much about driving and parking in small spaces, the Tundra could be the right choice for them.

Both trucks have impressive cargo capacities. The Tacoma’s cargo bed is available in sizes up to 73.5 inches in length, which is perfect for hauling cargo, dirt bikes, or ATVs. The Tundra also offers multiple bed length options including one option of 77.6 inches, making it great for moving large items like furniture or heavy machinery. Another difference in cargo capacity comes in the form of payload capabilities, with the Tacoma handling loads up to 1,440 pounds and the Tundra taking up to 1,730 pounds.

Safety and Security Comparison

Both the 2024 Toyota Tacoma and 2024 Toyota Tundra come with advanced collision mitigation technology that is designed to help drivers avoid collisions. The system uses radar and cameras to detect potential collisions and alerts the driver with visual warnings or audible alerts. If the driver fails to respond, the system can apply automatic emergency braking to prevent or reduce the severity of a collision.

Toyota understands the risks associated with drivers unintentionally drifting out of their lanes and has equipped both trucks with Lane Departure Alert technology. This safety feature uses a camera to detect lane markings and alerts the driver with a visual warning if they begin to drift out of their lane. In the Tundra, you can also opt for the Lane Tracing Assist feature that uses the same camera to make slight adjustments to the steering to keep the vehicle centered in its lane.

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma and 2024 Toyota Tundra both come with available Adaptive Cruise Control technology. This feature is designed to maintain a safe distance between the vehicle and the one in front of it by automatically adjusting the speed. In both trucks, the system can bring the vehicle to a complete stop if necessary and start again when traffic begins to move.

Changing lanes has never been easier thanks to Blind-Spot Monitoring technology that is offered in both the 2024 Tacoma and Tundra. The system uses sensors to detect other cars in the driver’s blind spot and alerts them with a visual or audible warning when it is unsafe to change lanes.

Pricing Comparison

When it comes to pricing, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma has a lower starting MSRP than the 2024 Toyota Tundra. The Tacoma starts at $31,500, while the Tundra starts at $39,965. However, it’s important to keep in mind that these are base model prices and the cost can quickly add up as you add on features and upgrades.

For example, the Limited trim level on the 2024 Tacoma comes in at an MSRP of $52,100. At the time of this article, Toyota has yet to announce pricing on its highest level Tacoma trim levels. However the highest trim level on the 2024 Tundra, the Capstone trim, comes in at a starting MSRP of $78,845. To no surprise, the Tundra offers a lot more capability and a larger and more spacious frame and cabin which leads to a higher price tag. No matter which Toyota truck you choose, you’ll be getting one of the most capable and reliable trucks on the market.
