2024 Toyota Tacoma vs 2024 Honda Ridgeline Comparison

Are you in the market for a mid-size pickup truck? There are several options to choose from with none more popular than the Toyota Tacoma. While the Tacoma leads this segment in sales there are formidable competitors that you may want to be aware of. One such competitor is the Honda Ridgeline. The Toyota Tacoma and Honda Ridgeline are both reliable choices as Toyota and Honda continue to offer some of the best vehicle lineups across all segments. In this article, we will compare the 2024 Toyota Tacoma versus the 2024 Honda Ridgeline to help you make an educated purchasing decision.

Capability and Performance Comparison

One of the most important features to discuss when purchasing a pickup truck is the performance-related features. While some truck drivers opt for the pickup for its aesthetic appeal, many truck buyers need to perform specific tasks. Let’s compare the similarities and differences of the performance and capability-related features on both pickups.

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma comes in two available engine options. First is a i-FORCE MAX 2.4L Turbocharged 4-Cylinder engine that produces up to 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The other option is a i-FORCE MAX 2.4L Turbocharged 4-Cylinder Hybrid engine that produces up to 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. When properly equipped, the Tacoma can tow up to 6,500 pounds. The Tacoma is also offered in select off-road capable trim levels such as the TRD Pro. These trim levels get advanced off-road features like an Off-Road Suspension, TRD-Tuned FOX shocks and more.

The 2024 Honda Ridgeline on the other hand only comes in one available engine option. A 3.5L V6 Engine that produces up to 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. This engine boasts a capable towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds. Like the Tacoma, the Ridgeline comes in an “off-road focused” TrailSport trim level that does get an upgraded suspension and all-terrain tires. However this upgrade doesn’t quite stack up to what is available on the TRD-Pro trim level. All said, both vehicles offer powerful engines that can more than tackle most towing cargo, but the edge certainly goes to the Tacoma.

Exterior and Design Comparison

Next, let’s discuss the exterior and design differences between these two trucks. The 2024 Tacoma is fresh off of a redesign that brings a rugged and aggressive look to the exterior of the vehicle. A bold front grille, machined body lines and a high ground clearance make the Tacoma a true head-turner as you drive down the road. The Tacoma also comes in various cab and bed dimensions that help you to customize your Tacoma to fit your needs.

The 2024 Ridgeline hasn’t received an overhaul since its re-release in the 2017 model year. While the exterior shares a lot of similarities with the Honda Pilot, the Ridgeline clearly favors practicality over exterior design. The unibody frame construction helps the vehicle achieve a smooth ride and better fuel efficiency. The contoured lines on the Ridgeline don’t quite stack up to the rugged nature of its Tacoma competitor which is why we give the edge to the Tacoma once again.

Interior and Comfort Comparison

On the inside of the 2024 Toyota Tacoma, riders and drivers alike will notice the focused attention on comfort and technology. The Tacoma offers trim levels across a wide range of price points, which means you’ll get a more luxurious ride on the higher trim levels. The Tacoma offers comfortable seating across all its trims and ample headroom and legroom for all passengers.

The Ridgeline also puts a great emphasis on the interior design and comfort of its passengers. The interior, much like the exterior, is more similar to an SUV than a pickup, which makes for a spacious and comfortable ride. While the front row legroom is similar between vehicles, the Ridgeline offers about 3 inches more legroom for rear-seating passengers. With this in mind, we think the interior comparison results in a tie between these pickups.

Technology Comparison

Both the Tacoma and Ridgeline come equipped with the latest technology offerings. The 2024 Tacoma gets a huge 14-inch multimedia touchscreen display on select trim levels. A 10-speaker JBL premium audio system is also offered on the premium trim levels. The Tacoma also gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability along with charging ports throughout the cabin.

The Ridgeline comes equipped with a smaller 9-inch touchscreen display however this screen is available on all trim levels and not reserved as a premium option. The Black Edition trim comes equipped with an 8-speaker premium audio system. Like the Tacoma, you’ll get wireless phone connectivity and charging ports throughout. Given the more premium options available on the Tacoma, we will give it the edge in this category too.

Safety and Security Comparison

Toyota and Honda are known to produce two of the safest vehicle lineups around. The 2024 Tacoma comes equipped with the latest safety features like collision-avoidance, adaptive cruise control and driving assist features. The 2024 Toyota Tacoma received the coveted IIHS Top Safety Pick which makes it one of the safest pickups on the road.

The 2024 Ridgeline also focuses on its safety features which are part of the Honda Sensing Suite. You’ll get collision avoidance, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control. However, unlike the Tacoma, the Ridgeline has not won the IIHS award in a number of years. This is why we will give this category to the Toyota Tacoma.

Price and Warranty Comparison

One of the most important factors to consider when purchasing any vehicle is the price tag. The 2024 Tacoma comes in a much wider array of trim levels which also carry a wider array of price points. For example, you can drive away in the base trim Tacoma SR for an MSRP of just $31,500. However, if you want many of the premium options that we’ve mentioned in this article, you’ll be looking to purchase the TRD Pro trim level which carries an MSRP of $63,900.

The Ridgeline on the other hand is only offered in four trim levels which do not span nearly as broadly as that of the Tacoma. For example, the base trim Ridgeline Sport starts at $39,750 while the top tier Ridgeline Black Edition starts at $46,350. As you can see, the Ridgeline sports a higher starting price but also a lower price for the premium trim level.

Both the Tacoma and Ridgeline offer competitive warranty packages that cover basic repairs for up to 3-year/36,000 miles and powertrain repairs for up to 5-years/60,000 miles. When equipped with similar options, both the Tacoma and Ridgeline offer strikingly similar price tags. We’ll settle this category as a tie.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma and 2024 Honda Ridgeline are both very capable and comfortable mid-sized trucks. The Tacoma certainly offers more features to help you customize your vehicle to your exact specifications. The Ridgeline offers more features at its base trim, but doesn’t offer the complete customization you’d get in a Tacoma. With its recent redesign, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma comes away with the win in this comparison thanks to its advanced capability, premium technology offerings and award-winning safety features.
